Biomechanics & Gait

Assess movement and address the causes of pain or overload.

Podiatrist assessing a child's foot and lower limb

Overview

We assess how your feet and legs move during daily life and exercise to find the cause of pain or overload.

How your feet and legs move affects everything above them. A biomechanical assessment looks at joint range, strength, alignment and walking pattern to work out why pain keeps returning — whether it shows up in the foot, ankle, shin or knee.

Assessments are done in your home, including gait analysis and functional testing. From there, treatment might involve a strengthening program, footwear changes or custom orthotics — the aim is always to address the cause of the overload, not just the symptom.

Children’s concerns such as flat feet, intoeing and activity-related pain are also assessed, with an emphasis on reassurance and practical guidance for parents.
